Frankfurt / Berlin, 29. October 2026 – Finanzguru, one of Germany’s leading AI-based finance apps, has selected Upvest, Europe’s leading investment infrastructure provider, and Franklin Templeton, one of the world’s largest asset managers, to launch its Altersvorsorgedepot. In the partnership, Finanzguru provides the app, customer interface and advice experience; Upvest provides the investment infrastructure and operational services, including account opening, trading, settlement, custody, contributions, government bonus administration, transfers and payouts; and Franklin Templeton provides the underlying investment solutions. For the first time, Finanzguru, which already helps more than four million end users understand and manage their money, will extend its offering to state-subsidised, capital market-based retirement savings.

The Altersvorsorgedepot is a chance to offer pension products for the way people manage money today: online, in real time, with smart guidance. Finanzguru’s AI companion already sorts end users’ transactions, detects contracts, and answers questions about their finances. From 1. January 2027, the app will be able to do the same for retirement: show end users, in clear language and in real time, how much they could set aside each month, which government bonuses they may be eligible for, and how their savings are developing. Every decision stays with the end user, and personal advisers are available for anyone who wants to dive deeper.

To make this work, AI needs real-time, accurate investment data. As Finanzguru’s investment infrastructure partner, Upvest provides exactly that through its API-first platform. Every order, holding, and contribution is available in real time, so Finanzguru’s AI always works with the end user’s current portfolio. Upvest also operates the investment account infrastructure across the full pension-product journey, from account opening to pension payout.

For Finanzguru’s end users, this means that for the first time they can receive government bonuses on a pure investment account and invest their retirement savings directly in the capital markets. They will be able to open their AVD account digitally and instantly, directly in the Finanzguru app. In the background, Upvest executes and settles every order, holds end users’ investments in custody, processes contributions, manages government bonuses, handles transfers and payouts, and connects with the relevant authorities on behalf of Franklin Templeton.

The partnership demonstrates the speed at which a digital finance app can launch a new product, backed by a global asset manager, without the need to build the underlying infrastructure itself. Upvest already powers investing for leading fintechs and banks such as Revolut, N26, bunq and DKB, and supports more than 20 financial institutions and fintechs with AVD go-lives during 2027.

“Our end users already manage their finances with Finanzguru every day. The Altersvorsorgedepot is the natural next step: helping them actively shape their financial future using the capital markets, either with personal advice or completely digitally, whichever they prefer. With Upvest’s modern infrastructure and Franklin Templeton’s investment expertise, we can offer a product that is as simple, digital, and transparent as people expect from Finanzguru.”
Alexander Michel Founder of Finanzguru
“Franklin Templeton brings global investment expertise and many decades of experience in designing and managing investment solutions for retirement. That experience spans asset allocation, portfolio construction and ongoing investment management, all focused on helping people build wealth for later life. We bring these capabilities to Germany’s new Altersvorsorgedepot through investment solutions that partners can integrate into their own offerings. By combining our expertise with Finanzguru’s digital reach and personal advice, and Upvest’s investment infrastructure, we can make capital market-based retirement provision more widely accessible, directly where people already manage their finances”

Christian Machts Head of Germany and Austria at Franklin Templeton
“AI is changing how people manage their money, but it’s only as good as the infrastructure behind it. An AI companion can’t guide someone through their retirement savings if it works with yesterday’s data. Finanzguru is showing what an AI-first pension product looks like, and we’re proud to provide the real-time foundation that makes it possible at scale.”
